My name is Joshua Inayat and I am a Professional Photographer. I haven’t always been a hot shot camera whiz, but I have always been in love with visiting cemeteries. The reasons are numerous and personal, as are yours I am sure.

I first fell in love with creating artistic images from a cemetery landscape by accident. I was conducting a paranormal investigation in the midwest. I was processing the images in Photoshop and low and behold, nothing otherworldly came out. Bored and frustrated, I tried playing with Photoshop’s built in artistic filters and learned that I don’t need ghosts to have amazing images!

The very next day I was out at the cemetery with an Olympus C-5500 snapping away. All I knew about that little 5 megapixel camera was how to turn it on and make it take a picture.

That was 2005 when my inner photographer was born.

Today I’m using a Canon 5D full frame SLR and a wide assortment of lenses, filters and photoshop techniques to create the images I love.

I have since moved to the Pacific Northwest and while it is beautiful and clean like few other places in America – it has a distinct lack of Cemeteries.

There was virtually zero European population out here before the late 1800’s and no significant population as we know it until just a few decades ago. With my new found camera skills and equipment I was ready to conquer the world of Cemetery Photography! … Until I ran out of Cemeteries as I knew them.

Back east a Cemetery is a literal Necropolis. City of the Dead. Cemeteries are ornate, beautiful, hundreds of years old and plentiful.

Here in the west they are tiny, with hardly any Victorian decoration (that I so love) and sparse.

It is my love for Cemeteries as well as the images I create from them that really brought the idea of Cemetery Seeking into my consciousness.

It is from mastering this outdoor adventure sport that I have created this website for myself, and for my fellow cemetery seekers.

It is here where I will compile all of my lessons learned about exploring the vast wilderness in search of memories and the cultural remains of our forefathers and pioneers.

I hope that with my lessons and experience, you will not only learn the location of many new cemeteries you never knew existed, but you will capture their beauty with grace and respect in complete safety.

Travel well friends!
